TSU Faculty of Law Dean Tamar Zarandia, Deputy Deans - Irma Kharshiladze and Giorgi Dgebuadze, prof. Paata Turava within the DESK joint study program of the TSU and the Free University of Berlin, met the professors of the Free University of Berlin - Teocharis Grigoriadis, Olaf Muthorst and the DESK tutor - Tamar Ergemlidze.
Since 2023, with the support of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the joint interdisciplinary program between the Free University of Berlin and Tbilisi State University, titled "Germany in the South Caucasus: Institutions and Development" (Deutschland in Südkaukasus: Institutionen & Entwicklung (DESK)), has been successfully underway. The program is led by Professor Theocharis Grigoriadis from the Institute of East European Studies at the Free University of Berlin.
Through the program, Tbilisi State University students have a unique opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary learning for one year in Tbilisi, studying in German. This allows to develop intercultural competencies and deepen their knowledge of German politics and economics. The program is fully funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
The first part of the program (module "A") included the "German Political Economy" lecture course and seminars (Prof. Theocharis Grigoriadis and Andrea Weiss). From the spring semester, the courses "World Economy and Germany's Foreign Economic Relations - Lectures and Tutorium" (Prof. Theocharis Grigoriadis and Tamar Ergemlidze) are held within the program's "B" and "C" modules. Additionally, "Basics of International Criminal Law" in English (Prof. Giorgi Dgebuadze) and "Methods of Law - Lecture Course and Seminar" (Prof. Olaf Muthorst and Tamar Ergemlidze) are also offered.
Apart from the DESK program, an intensive course in civil law titled "German Judicial Practice in 2023" is offered for undergraduate students of TSU Faculty of Law during the spring semester. This course is led by Prof. Olaf Muthorst from the Free University of Berlin and Marika Turava, guest lecturer and doctoral candidate at the TSU Faculty of Law.
Professors from the Free University of Berlin were in Tbilisi to conduct intensive lecture courses as part of joint programs. During their meeting with the TSU Faculty of Law administration, they discussed the successful outcomes of ongoing projects and explored future plans and opportunities for expanding cooperation.
